We are currently operating in Germany, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
In November 2011, after 1.5 years of careful designing and planning, SOLARKIOSK GmbH, a limited liability company, was incorporated in Berlin, Germany to prepare the product and business concept for commercial rollout by building prototypes and running pilot phases in several countries. The first prototype of the SOLARKIOSK was built in November 2011 and has been on display in various locations.
In addition to our private funding, a “Solarkiosk” project was funded in 2011 and 2012 by the Zentrales Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand (ZIM), a program by the German Federal Ministry for Business and Technology. The four partners in this project were:
In 2012, our first subsidiary Solarkiosk Solutions PLC was incorporated in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. Since then we have deployed seven kiosks in various remote and off-grid regions of Ethiopia.
In December 2012, we established our second subsidiary, Solarkiosk Kenya Ltd., in Nairobi. Five more kiosks are currently being deployed in Kenya. Here we cooperate closely with African Solar Designs Ltd., Nairobi.
