It integrates a solar power system that generates, stores, and provides electricity for businesses who use the E-HUBB to run their appliances from this renewable energy source.

SOLARKIOSK’s off-grid turnkey solutions generate power at a levelized cost of electricity that, over time, is less than the continual cost of purchasing power from the electricity grid, or running a business with the help of a diesel generator. Over the past decades, these levelized costs of electricity have come down significantly.

For businesses, there are three main factors contributing to the cost of electricity, investment, and operational expenses (including maintenance and operational costs). E-HUBB is more cost efficient over time. Diesel generators may appear cheaper, but due to limited lifetime and high O & M costs, have proven to be more expensive mid and long-term. In many rural communities, there is no grid available at all.

In some communities, there is grid, but the grid is usually very unreliable (bad grid) and costs to get connected can be relatively high.

The E-HUBB integrates a high quality solar system which is largely maintenance-free for the duration of the E-HUBB. Diesel generators have a limited lifetime which is reduced the more it is used. When used 24/7, you end up buying a generator every year or so.

It also needs regular maintenance like any other motor. The older the generator gets, the more maintenance is required.

As long as the user pays the electricity bill, he can enjoy the grid for an indefinite time as the utility company is responsible to maintain the grid infrastructures (such as poles, transmission lines, transformers, etc.)

Contrary to the E-HUBB, diesel generators can only run in those off-grid communities where there is an existing supply chain of diesel established.

BUT transport of diesel to very remote and difficult to access sites can be very expensive. As a result, many operators look at solar as a cheaper alternative.

In many areas of the world, especially in the developing nations of Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, etc. access to electricity can be as low as 15%. This is due to a lack of infrastructure.

This leaves 85% of the population without access to electricity and restricts the choice of where businesses can set up in such countries.

Each 2 kWp E-HUBB (SC-230) generates power and helps save over 36,000 KG of CO2 over 15 years. Diesel generators are polluting the environment with CO2 emissions and loud noise. These numbers are based on a small 5 kW diesel generator running throughout the year. The grid can be powered by different sources of energy which have different impact on the environment and CO2 emissions. The impact on the CO2 balance of a country is determined by its energy mix:

The E-HUBB is a modular structure. The two main modules are the E-HUBB and the Canopy which can be arranged and added to fit the planning of any type of project with different environments, landscapes, plot layouts, intended usages and power requirements.

We can increase the space required in a project by joining E-HUBBs together as we did in a project where we created a clinic in which one E-HUBB is used as the administration room, joined by a second E-HUBB that functioned as the examination room.

Different businesses might also require more electrical appliances to be run with an increased demand for electricity. In order to cater to this increased need for electricity for a project, thanks to the modularity, we can join one or several canopies to the E-HUBB in order to increase the Power Core, as we did for a project where we added several canopies to an existing E-HUBB in order to provide solar power to a telcom tower.

In this project, we established an E-HUBB in rural Kenya. The basis of this was our standard E-HUBB SC-230 that includes one canopy, serving as a power extension for increased solar power production, which we needed to deliver an increased amount of energy services in one of SOLARKIOSK's rural C-store solar powered kiosk.

This kiosk is a bigger version of our standard kiosk. It offers more space for businesses that require more space, such as a walking in store, a internet coffee or any other business. The bigger size of the kiosk enables the application of more solar panels on the roof top for a bigger solar system that can deliver more power to the business.

In this project we established a clinic in a refugee camp, please follow this link to see the case study on this project. The clinic has an administration facility and an examination room. We took our standard E-HUBB and we had to customise it in order to suit the project requirements:
  • More power, needed to power AC's and medical equipment by adding solar panels and canopies to our standard E-
  • More space for administration offices and examination rooms by joining our standard kiosks together
This way we extended power and space and we created several multi room facilities for this clinic.

The solar-powered banking agency is a first of its kind infrastructure that can empower financial institutions to extend their reach into any kind of community. With the SOLARKIOSK’s solar-powered agricultural support E-HUBB, companies and organizations involved in the agricultural sector now have a turnkey solution to get close to the smallholder farming communities, regardless of existing infrastructure. In no other economic sector is sustainability a bigger topic than for agricultural companies as mounting pressure on natural resources and climate change impact agriculture and food production. Through the E-HUBB’s communication tools and connectivity, farming communities can now access information such as market prices, existing and available know-how, as well as distance learning tools, helping them learn how to increase their productivity and meet standards of high value markets. Through the E-HUBB, much needed quality farming input products (such as quality seeds) can reach farmers. The E-HUBB can also be used to accumulate farming products and bring them to markets. While traditional brick and mortar business infrastructures are expensive to build, and permits and other related issues might slow down the time to market for a new business, the E-HUBB is fast to implement and hassle-free to begin new operations as fast as possible.

All E-HUBBs come as a kit of parts and are easy to transport and implement even at sites with poor infrastructure. The parts can be assembled and disassembled without the assistance of heavy machinery, and the kit allows swift implementation with a maximum of 3 days for assembly for immediate operations.

Once the E-HUBB is installed, it can be easily relocated. As described above, it can be disassembled quickly and transported as part of a kit. Alternatively, through its lightweight material, it can simply be picked up and carried away with a flatbed truck, making it possible to relocate within a day. This way, it has never been easier to try out new potential locations and convert the results from such pilots to a decision by relocating the asset to another potential location.
