What we do
We are a trading platform, a system integrator, a service provider and a business incubator.
Our key strengths derive from the “E-HUBB”, our proprietary award-winning solar technology-design. Our E-HUBBs are designed to power the energy-connectivity-productivity gateway in rural off-grid communities. We have deployed approx. 250 E-HUBBs worldwide in 15 countries, reaching approx. 5m people.
We combine quality solar products with turnkey solutions and provide services to create sustainable businesses in off-grid frontier markets worldwide.

Services
As a service provider, we have years of experience consulting our clients. Some of our services are:
Goal: Develop, implement and operate sustainable, inclusive, profitable go-to market strategies for frontier markets, while serving BoP communities with energy, connectivity, essential products and services.
Short description: Based on Solarkiosk’s proprietary E-HUBB technology, intertwined with Solarkiosk’s inclusive business model, we help our partners to design, implement and operated a solar powered Retail & Trading network, targeting rural off-grid/bad grid Bottom of the Pyramid communities. Our partners in particular benefit from Solarkiosk’s many years of experience on implementing and operating East Africa’s largest rural retail network with more than 200 E-HUBBs trading outlets in 4 East-Africa countries.
As part of the greenfield development, we will in a step-by-sep approach first check the feasibility, develop a detailed business plan, pilot and roll-out a solar powered trading network consisting of our prefabricated solar powered shops (“E-HUBBs”).
Conditional to a successful pilot phase, the aim of the project will be to incorporate and operate a trading company (“Company”), roll out the E-HUBB network and implement all required policies, tools and procedures, with the objective to establish a profitable company.
The objective is to create an economically, environmentally and socially sustainable company. Establishing a profitable retail Company in BoP communities will foster the following sustainable development goals (SDG’s):

The Project will be structured in five phases, starting with a feasibility study and ending after successful implementation of the country/region wide roll-out. The process flow of the project has been designed to de-risk an investment at each step and give our partner full control of the project in each phase.
Our clients include ABInBev, Coca Cola, MunichRe, Total, Siemens Stiftung, and Ericsson, among others.

Goal: Develop sustainable solar powered infrastructure products and solutions in off-grid frontier markets, in limited to off-grid areas worldwide and intertwine these physical solutions with inclusive business models, adapted for the needs of off-grid communities.
Short description: Depending on the individual need of our client in terms of solar powered infrastructure needs, Solarkiosk offers its services of developing, manufacturing and improving individual solutions for specific usages, following our product development process:
These solutions always are specifically aimed at establishing solutions for energy needs in frontier markets. Solarkiosk already has created such solutions for healthcare, education, retail, individual home usage.
Our clients include ABInBev, Coca Cola, MunichRe, Total, Siemens Stiftung, and Ericsson, among others.

Thanks to available solar technological advances, as well as, the increasingly competitive prices in the market, solar energy has become the main source of energy for more and more users. Many businesses and consumers still face the issue of not being connected to the grid, which means a lot of issues, such as:
- Having to use a diesel genset, which is expensive and means a lot of hustle
- High electricity bills reducing operational results
- Ever fluctuating electricity and diesel prices make long term planning difficult
- etc.
Solar is not only the more responsible choice over a diesel generators, it also helps to save money over time. The following graph depicts the cumulative cash flower calculation graph of a 750 kw solar off-grid system with battery back up versus power from a diesel generator. The return on investment in the solar system is reached under three years.
Investing in a solar system can have manifold benefits, here just a couple of them:
- Environmental friendly energy
- Low Maintenance Costs
- Reduces monthly electricity bills
- Etc.
But as the investment in a solar system can be, depending on the size of the system, a significant expense, which is going to return the investment through savings on the energy costs only over several months. For this reason, the most important thing to do before investing in such a system is to ensure a proper system size calculation that is:
- Not oversized (and would cost too much) OR
- Not undersized (and would not be able to deliver enough power to run all required electrical appliances
In order to ensure that all energy needs are being met by the Solar system to work properly. Only a correct sized system can show the targeted savings, so this step in an investment decision emerges as a critical process and the foundation for a proper decision making basis of an investment.
Solarkiosk is using modern software simulation tools to specify the right PV system. We specify the right balance of system components that, when correctly configured, always achieve high yields and long term results.
We are now offering these services for our customers.

Incubator
SOLARKIOSK Solutions is passionate about bringing new solar power products, technologies and solutions to off-grid frontier markets. We have for many years incubated new technology solutions and business models tailored for the specific needs of rural off-grid communities. The idea for our E-HUBB was borne out of the realization that last mile distribution is a key component for energy access in off-grid areas. Our Connected Solar Market Centers (CSMC) are a concept developed by our operators because they wanted to get the solar energy from our E-HUBBs to work for other local businesses: a butcher, a restaurant, a viewing hall, a hotel (picture of first Kenyan “CSMC”?). We introduced “reverse supply chain” to rural communities, so that we did not only “push” solar and sustainable products into frontier market, but also “pulled” products from these markets, mainly agricultural and artisan products.
We have realized that energy access is a great enabler for off-grid communities, but productive use of energy is the real game-changer. Energy and Connectivity are the main ingredients for transformation in agriculture, health, education, administration and communication. We are solar product and solutions experts, but we also think outside the box. Our approach is holistic as we have millions of validated data to understand the community in its socio-economic entirety. We therefore connect energy with supply chain with agriculture with health with education with communication with administration.
We continue to incubate and spin-off new technology and business solutions. We connect innovation with investment so that successfully tested ideas can scale.
